SAIC-GM-Wuling today officially announced the Lingxi smart driving system, which it says is the result of a partnership with DJI Automotive, the automotive division of drone maker DJI, with the vision of reinventing the future of driving.

The system is based on SAIC-GM-Wuling's "Emotion Engine" concept and focuses on urban mobility scenarios to create smart driving that everyone will love, it said.

SAIC-GM-Wuling's 2023 Baojun KiWi EV will be the first model to use the system, according to the company.

On July 13, the company announced that the first production unit of the 2023 KiWi EV rolled off the production line, and the model will be officially launched in August.

The Lingxi smart driving system leverages DJI's technological strengths in the field of binocular cameras and is built on the latter's accumulation of algorithms in the field of vision perception and experience in vision perception systems for drones.

The system has the advantages of complex road condition user intent prediction, multiple driving style learning and comprehensive coverage of urban road conditions, SAIC-GM-Wuling said.

SAIC-GM-Wuling is a joint venture between SAIC Group, General Motors and Liuzhou Wuling Automobile, headquartered in Liuzhou, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Southwest China.

It sells vehicles in China built on the GSEV (Global Small Electric Vehicle) architecture, including the Mini EV, KiWi EV and Nano EV, all priced below RMB 100,000.

DJI announced its automotive business, DJI Automotive, in April 2021 and said it had been in the automotive parts business for five years.

By function and application scenario, DJI's smart driving system offers three solutions: DJI Smart Parking System; DJI Smart Driving D80/D80+; and DJI Smart Driving D130/D130+.

The D80/D80+ solution can cover the speed range from 0 to 80 km/h and is suitable for urban expressway scenarios.

The D130/D130+ solution includes all the functions of the D80/D80+, with the addition of active overtaking assistance, navigation and road change assistance, and lateral motion control functions such as emergency parking.

Although SAIC-GM-Wuling did not announce the technical details of the Lingxi system, its description suggests that it should be based on DJI's D80/D80+ solution.
