Tesla China exported just 968 vehicles in June and delivered 77,938 to Chinese consumers.
Tesla China sold a record number of vehicles in June, as it works to make up for losses from previous production halts and accelerate deliveries to Chinese users.
Tesla sold 78,906 China-made vehicles in June, surpassing last December's record high of 70,847, according to data released today by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).
That's up 137.99 percent from 33,155 units a year ago and 145.32 percent from 32,165 units in May.
Tesla sold 52,557 China-made Model Y SUVs in June, making the model the best-selling NEV, ahead of SAIC-GM-Wuling's Hongguang Mini EV at 46,249 units, according to the CPCA.
China-made Model Y sales in June were up 352.18 percent from 11,623 units in the same month last year and up 794.59 percent from 5,875 units in May.
Model Y retail sales in China in June were 52,150 units, up 348.68 percent from 11,623 units in the same month last year and up 787.66 percent from 5,875 units in May.
Model 3 retail sales in China in June were 25,788 units, up 56.15 percent from 16,515 units in the same month last year and up 552.86 percent from 3,950 units in May.
Tesla China exported only 968 vehicles in June, according to the CPCA, meaning it delivered 77,938 units locally, or 98.77 percent of all sales in June.
June's dramatic sales increase comes as Tesla is working to make up for the loss of production at its Shanghai plant due to the Covid lockdown.
Tesla's China-made vehicle sales in April were just 1,512 units because of the Covid lockdown in Shanghai. Its factory in the city produced 10,757 vehicles in April and exported zero.
Tesla's Shanghai plant halted production when the city went into a phased lockdown from March 28, and officially resumed limited production on April 19.
By May, production at Tesla Giga Shanghai had recovered significantly, producing 33,544 vehicles, a 212 percent increase from April, according to the CPCA.
Tesla China exported 22,340 vehicles in May, with retail sales of 9,825 vehicles in China.
Tesla is taking steps to boost production at its Shanghai plant, partially suspending manufacturing capacity for various periods until early August to upgrade the production line, Bloomberg reported on June 23.
Upgrades at the plant are expected to be completed around August 7, when Model Y production will increase to 14,000 units per week from about 11,000 before the Covid outbreak, and Model 3 production will increase to 7,700 units per week from 5,500 previously, the report said, citing people familiar with the matter.
Tesla plans to double its original annual target to 1 million units, the people said.
