Xpeng Motors (NYSE: XPEV, HKG: 9868) saw strong growth in deliveries in June, as the Chinese auto chain recovers from the Covid shock.

Xpeng delivered 15,295 vehicles in June, up 51.06 percent from 10,125 in May and up 132.98 percent from 6,565 in the same month last year, data released today showed.

Xpeng P7 delivered 8,045 units in June, Xpeng P5 delivered 5,598 units and Xpeng G3 series delivered 1,652 units.

Xpeng delivered 34,422 units in the second quarter, above its previous guidance range of 31,000 to 34,000 units. This represents a 97.85 percent increase from 17,398 units in the same period last year and is essentially unchanged from 34,561 units in the first quarter.

From January to June, Xpeng delivered a total of 68,983 units, up 124.42 percent from 30,738 units in the same period last year.

Beginning in mid-May, Xpeng accelerated deliveries with resumed double-shift production at its Zhaoqing plant and notably, in June, the company reached the milestone of 200,000 cumulative deliveries, it said in a press release.

In August, Xpeng plans to start taking pre-orders for its new flagship G9 SUV before officially launching it in September, it said.

The company also plans to release its new City NGP (Navigation Guided Pilot) feature when it receives the relevant approvals, Xpeng said.

Xpeng unveiled the G9 SUV, its fourth model, at the Guangzhou auto show on November 19 last year.

Xpeng said the G9 is the company's first vehicle designed directly for the international market and meets both Chinese and international standards in terms of vehicle safety.

It a large five-seat smart luxury SUV, it is nearly 4.9 meters long and has a wheelbase of nearly 3 meters, which is just the right size for most people, the company's chairman and CEO He Xiaopeng said on June 29.

"I am confident that this flagship product of Xpeng will be the best SUV within RMB 500,000 ($74,550)," he said.

The model has a chassis tuned by a team of top German engineers, giving a premium feel to the handling comparable to the Porsche Cayenne and a quietness comparable to the GLS Maybach, said Mr. He.
