BJEV produced 220 units in April, up 45.7 percent from 151 units in the same month last year.

BAIC BluePark, BAIC's new energy vehicle (NEV) brand, said today that its subsidiary Beijing Electric Vehicle (BJEV) sold 2,017 units in April.

This was up 96.2 percent from 1,028 units in the same month last year and down 64.8 percent from 5,735 units in March.

BJEV production in April was 220 units, up 45.7 percent from 151 units in the same month last year.

In the January-April period, BJEV production was 2,923 units, up 113.7 percent from 1,368 units in the same period last year.

BJEV has had a glorious past, having been the No. 1 seller of pure electric vehicles in China for seven consecutive years from 2013-2019.

However, its business conditions have continued to deteriorate in recent years, with sales of just 26,127 units in 2021, which is about the volume of a quarter for China's major electric vehicle startups.

BJEV is now pinning its turnaround hopes on its Arcfox brand, which has two models, the Arcfox α-T SUV and the Arcfox α-S sedan, with the former released in late October 2020 and the latter in late April 2021.

On May 7, BAIC and announced the launch of the Arcfox α-S with "Huawei Inside" at a launch event, making it the first production sedan to feature Huawei's full-stack smart car solution and Huawei's intelligent cockpit.

BAIC is offering two versions of the model, priced at RMB 397,900 ($59,690) and RMB 429,900 respectively.
