Nio (NYSE: NIO, HKG: 9866) today announced a strategic partnership with the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), which will be one of the co-sponsors of Nio's Clean Parks initiative, according to a statement released today by the electric vehicle (EV) company.

The WWF will work with Nio to promote clean, low-carbon energy self-cycling systems in nature reserves in China and around the world to promote sustainable development and safeguard the originality and integrity of ecosystems, according to a statement from Nio.

At the Nio Day 2021 event held on December 18 last year, Nio announced the launch of the Clean Parks program in addition to the new sedan ET5, which aims to help ecological guardianship of environmentally sensitive areas.

Over the next three years, Nio will invest RMB 100 million ($15.7 million) to support the use of EVs and the construction of clean energy infrastructure in nature reserves around the world, the company's founder, chairman and CEO William Li said at the time.

Clean Parks is an open platform, and Nio was discussing partnerships with several global environmental organizations and will announce more details in the near future, Nio said when it unveiled the program last year.

"In the meantime, we would like to open up the resources of the Clean Parks platform to more nature reserves in need, and welcome those who have a need for project support to contact us," Nio said.

Clean Parks is a global ecological co-creation program initiated by Nio to fulfill the vision of Blue Sky Coming, which is also the first open platform initiated by an automotive company in the world to support the construction of national parks and nature reserves, the company's statement said today.

Based on this strategic partnership, Nio and the WWF will leverage their respective strengths to work together to promote the sustainable development of Clean Parks, safeguard ecosystems and welcome clear skies, it said.

The WWF will work with international and domestic scientific institutions to support the green development of communities in and around national parks and nature reserves, and explore nature-based biodiversity conservation solutions as one of the scientific guidance documents for Clean Parks.

Nio will be deeply involved in WWF's national parks and nature reserves program, supporting the use of smart electric vehicles, building clean energy infrastructure and constructing a clean and low-carbon energy self-cycle system in nature reserves, the company said.

Li, and Qin Lihong, co-founder and president of Nio, attended the strategic cooperation ceremony together with Lu Lunyan, Chief Representative of WWF China, and Zhou Fei, Chief Program Officer of WWF China.

WWF is the world's largest independent environmental NGO, founded in 1961 and headquartered in Gland, Switzerland, which aims to protect biodiversity and the living environment of living things.

WWF's work in China began in 1980 with the conservation of giant pandas and their habitats, and was the first international NGO invited by the Chinese government to carry out conservation work in China.
