Covid controls in Jilin, a key auto parts supply region, have hit the Chinese auto industry. The situation has now seem to have improved significantly.
The auto industry is an important pillar in Jilin province, and being the first to resume production is significant, Song Xiaohui, deputy director of the Jilin Provincial Department of Industry and Information Technology, said at a news conference today.
Jilin began planning for the resumption of production in the auto industry in mid- to late-March, and jointly formed a working group with FAW Group to promote FAW and its industry chain to resume production, Song said, according to the provincial government's official website.
FAW Hongqi's plant has been the first to start resuming production, the first 47 suppliers have also resumed production, and other OEMs have made preparations to resume work in advance and will resume production in batches in an orderly manner, he said.
Jilin is also promoting the orderly resumption of production in other industries based on its experience in promoting the resumption of production in the auto industry, he said.
As of April 14, only 79 of Jilin's 500 key companies remained out of production, only eight of 50 key large enterprises remained out of production, and nearly 80,000 employees had returned to work, Song said.
Nio announced a production halt on April 9 due to supply chain disruptions.
Since March, Nio's supply chain partners in Jilin, Shanghai, Jiangsu and many other places have been shutting down production one after another because of the Covid outbreak, it said in a statement.
On April 14, the Economic Observer quoted an unnamed Nio insider as saying that Nio's Hefei base was ready to gradually resume production.
"Nio's vehicle production was suspended last Saturday due to the impact of the supply chain. At present, the supply chain has slightly recovered and the Hefei production base is gradually resuming production," the report quoted the source as saying.
China added 3,867 confirmed cases of local Covid and 20,813 asymptomatic infections on Friday, the vast majority of which were in Shanghai, according to health authorities.
Shanghai added 3,590 confirmed cases and 19,923 asymptomatic infections on Friday. Jilin added 195 confirmed cases and 437 asymptomatic infections on Friday.
Several areas in Jilin have now been adjusted to low-risk, but control measures remain in place.
