The Model Y trailed the Mercedes-Benz GLC, BMW X3 and Audi Q5 in China in January, but sold about twice as many units as each of them in February.
The Tesla Model Y, which trailed the Mercedes-Benz GLC, BMW X3 and Audi Q5 in China in January, was significantly ahead of those German competitors in February.
The Model Y retail sales in China in February were 18,593 units, up 301.6 percent from 4,630 units a year ago and up 13.6 percent from 16,358 units in January, according to data released today by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).
That made the Model Y the best-selling premium SUV in China in February, about twice as many as the competing models from Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Audi.
Mercedes-Benz GLC retail sales in China in February were 9,958 units, up 16.4 percent from 8,557 units a year ago but down 55.4 percent from 22,331 units in January.
Audi Q5 sales in February were 8,859 units, down 15.9 percent from 10,529 units in the same month last year and down 48 percent from 17,062 units in January.
BMW X3 sales in February were 8,819 units, up 1.8 percent from 8,663 units a year ago and down 54.9 percent from 19,542 units in January.

In January, the Mercedes-Benz GLC, BMW X3 and Audi Q5 were the top three premium SUVs in China, with the Tesla Model Y in fourth, Li Auto's Li ONE in fifth and the Nio ES6 in seventh.

Figures released by the CPCA on March 8 showed that Tesla sold 5,6515 China-made vehicles in February, including 33,315 vehicles exported. This means that Tesla delivered 23,200 vehicles in China in February.
Figures released today by the CPCA imply that Model 3 retail sales in China were 4,607 units in February.
The Li ONE sold 8,414 units in February, up 265.8 percent from 2,300 units a year ago, placing it fifth in the premium SUV sales rankings.
The Nio ES6 ranked sixth on the list with 3,309 units sold.
No. 7-10 on the list are Cadillac XT5, Volvo XC60, Mercedes-Benz GLB and Volkswagen's Teramont, all of which are fuel vehicles.
In the February sales ranking of new energy vehicles (NEVs), the Model Y came in second place, below the BYD Song's new energy version of 22,754 units.

The BYD Tang came in third with 10,026 units, and the Li ONE came in fourth. The BYD Yuan Plus and BYD Yuan came in fifth and sixth, respectively, and the Nio ES6 came in ninth.
In the sales ranking of all SUVs in February, the Tesla Model Y came in fourth place. BYD Song ranked first with 24,532 units, Honda CR-V ranked second with 22,260 units, and Great Wall Motor's Haval H6 ranked third with 18,790 units.
