The Model Y sold 16,358 units in China in January, second only to Song's 20,722 units.

The China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) announced yesterday the total sales and exports of 's China-made vehicles, and now breakdown data is available for the Model 3 and Model Y.

Model Y sales in China in January were 16,358 units, up 896.8 percent from 1,641 units in January of last year, the CPCA data showed today.

That makes the Model Y the second best-selling new energy SUV in China in January, behind the BYD Song's 20,722 units.

The Model Y ranked 13th in all SUV sales, and Great Wall Motor's Haval H6 remained the best-selling SUV, with 33,318 units sold in January.

Tesla's Model 3 did not appear on the CPCA's list released today, though the model sold 2,988 units in China in January, based on data released yesterday.

Tesla sold 59,845 Chinese-made vehicles in January, up 286.5 percent year-on-year but down 15.5 percent from December, according to data released yesterday by the CPCA.

A total of 40,499 of these vehicles were exported, second only to the 40,666 units sold last October. The CPCA first published that export data in April 2021.

In China's new energy SUV sales rankings for January, 's Li ONE came in third with 12,268 units, the ES6 in eighth with 5,247 units and the 001 in 10th with 3,530 units.
