After several local car companies filed for the Metaverse trademark, BYD has also taken action.

China's largest new energy vehicle maker is applying for the trademark "BYD Metaverse" (比亚迪元宇宙), which is internationally classified as a means of transportation, according to information from data provider Tianyancha.

The trademark's application date is December 27, 2021, and its current status is pending. The move was not previously reported by the media, and a handful of Chinese media outlets reported it earlier today.

BYD sources said the move is mainly for trademark protection and there are no plans to carry out related business for the time being, according to local media Wallstreetcn.

Facebook's name change to Meta has brought a new focus to the hype about the Metaverse concept.

The Metaverse can be understood as an artificial virtual space running parallel to the real world, which connects the virtual with the real and provides an immersive interactive experience for users.

On the critical path to the Metaverse, AR/VR technically solves the problem of interacting the virtual world with the real world.

Probably out of fear of missing out, several companies including Nio, Xpeng, and Li Auto have applied for multiple Metaverse trademarks.
