The flagship sedans of the Han family sold 13,701 units in December, up 6.7 percent from 12,841 units in November and up 13.3 percent year-on-year, according to figures released today by the company.

This is the fourth consecutive month that Han family models have sold more than 10,000 units, bringing full-year 2021 sales to 117,665 units and cumulative sales of 158,221 units since their launch last July, according to data monitored by CnEVPost.

The BYD Han family includes the Han EV, an all-electric version with an NEDC range of 605 kilometers, and the Han DM, a hybrid model with a range of only 81 kilometers on pure electric power.

BYD has not announced the breakdown data of these two models, but mentioned that Han DM model sales in December increased by 20.6 percent compared to November.

Considering that Han DM models sold 2,820 units in November, this means they sold 3,400 units in December.

This also means that Han EV sales in December were 10,301 units, the second consecutive month of over 10,000 units.

On January 5, BYD released data confirming these.

In BYD's product array, the vehicles are available in EV, DM and DM-i versions, depending on the form of power. The EV stands for pure electric, while the DM and DM-i versions are both hybrid versions, except that the latter focuses more on fuel economy.

According to a report by yiche.com in November, the Han DM-i version is being tested on the road, and its appearance is almost indistinguishable from the Han EV and Han DM, except that the tail badge has been changed to Han DM-i.

The 150,000th vehicle of the BYD Han family rolled off the assembly line at the company's global headquarters in Shenzhen on December 23, 17 months after the model's launch.

BYD held a celebratory ceremony to mark the occasion, saying that not only has Han's production capacity not declined, but it is growing at an accelerating rate, even as the auto industry faces chip shortages and capacity constraints.

That's thanks to BYD's strong R&D and manufacturing capabilities and the advantages of the entire industrial chain, with the company now the only new energy vehicle (NEV) company in China that has mastered core technologies including batteries, motors and electric controls at the same time, it said.

BYD delivered the first Han EV to the Lao Prime Minister's Office in Vientiane, the capital of Laos, on December 27.

BYD sold 93,945 NEVs in December, up 225.7 percent year-on-year and up 3 percent from 91,219 units in November.

That included 92,823 passenger cars, and 1,122 commercial vehicles, the company said in an announcement filed with the Hong Kong Stock Exchange today.

Among new energy passenger vehicles, BYD sold 48,317 pure electric vehicles in December, up 148 percent from 19,482 units a year earlier. It sold 44,506 units of plug-in hybrids in December, up 448.6 percent from 8,112 units a year earlier.
