Five months after its launch, the Dolphin, the first model on BYD's e-platform 3.0, has become one of the company's most popular vehicles.

Figures released today by BYD show that the all-electric compact car, which looks a bit like the Honda Fit, sold 10,016 units in December, up 13.7 percent from 8,809 units in November.

It was the first time the model has sold more than 10,000 units in the five months since its launch, with cumulative sales of 29,598 units since August.

BYD officially launched the Dolphin at the Chengdu Auto Show on August 29, with a subsidized price of RMB 93,800 ($14,660) - RMB 121,800.

The model is available in four versions, with the lowest priced version having a range of 301 kilometers. It has a power battery capacity of 30.7 kWh and is priced at RMB 93,800 after subsidies.

The two versions in the middle of the price range both have a range of 405 km, a power battery capacity of 44.9 kWh and a post-subsidy price of RMB 103,800 and RMB 108,800 respectively.

The highest-priced version has a range of 401 km and a power battery capacity of 44.9kWh, with a post-subsidy price of RMB 121,800.

The Dolphin is also the first model in BYD's Ocean lineup, using the ocean aesthetic design concept for the first time, and the first model to have BYD's new logo.

BYD figures released earlier today show it sold 93,945 new energy vehicles (NEVs) in December, up 225.7 percent year-on-year and up 3 percent from 91,219 units in November.

This includes 92,823 passenger cars, and 1,122 commercial vehicles.

Among new energy passenger vehicles, BYD sold 48,317 pure electric vehicles in December, up 148 percent from 19,482 units in the same month last year.

Its plug-in hybrids sold 44,506 units in December, up 448.6 percent from 8,112 units a year earlier.
