With winter approaching, a Chinese regulatory authority has gathered industry participants to discuss the challenges of using electric vehicles (EVs) in cold weather.

China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) held a panel discussion on December 2, asking industry participants to maximize the protection of EV users in the event of extreme cold weather this winter, according to a statement posted today on the MIIT's website.

Participants included the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, the China Society of Automotive Engineers, and more than 10 new energy vehicle makers and power battery makers.

Mileage degradation of EVs in low-temperature environments is an issue in the industry's development, and industry participants need to work together to address these issues, the MIIT said.

Industry participants must first ensure that users can use their vehicles normally, make early warning alerts, and timely solve the problems reported by consumers, according to the announcement.

Automakers, battery companies, and research institutions should strengthen their work together and enhance technological synergy to fundamentally promote the solution of the low-temperature issues, the announcement said.

The MIIT will accelerate the development and release of energy consumption labeling standards and strengthen product access and production consistency supervision and inspection to protect consumer rights, the statement said.
