After opening a network of battery swap stations along the major highways from Beijing to neighboring cities in September, Nio today opened another one.

After putting two new battery swap stations into operation today, Nio announced the completion of its swap station network along the highways covering the Yangtze River Delta metropolitan area.

The Yangtze River Delta metropolitan area is one of the most prosperous regions in eastern China, with cities such as Shanghai, Suzhou, Hangzhou, Ningbo, Nanjing and Yangzhou, as well as a large number of attractions.

Nio says it has put in place 29 battery swap stations along 11 major highways in the region, making it easy for users to quickly replenish energy while traveling between cities.

Nio announced on September 16 that with three new battery swap stations in highway service areas, it has completed its network of battery swap stations along highways from Beijing to all major cities in the surrounding area.

The network consists of 12 highway battery swap stations, centered in Beijing, covering the service areas in Hebei and Tianjin on seven highways: Beijing-Chengde, Beijing-Harbin, Beijing-Lhasa, Beijing-Chongli, Beijing-Shanghai, Beijing-Hong Kong-Macau, and Beijing-Qinhuangdao.

On September 21, Nio said it will complete a network of battery swap stations covering eight major expressways and four densely populated metropolitan areas by the Spring Festival of 2022.

These four metropolitan areas are Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei, Yangtze River Delta, Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and Chengdu-Chongqing. So far, Nio has completed coverage of the first two metropolitan areas.

The next Chinese New Year will come on February 1, 2022, with the holiday running from January 31 to February 6, a seven-day period.

The holiday is typically a time for people working in major cities to return to their hometowns and will see one of the world's largest population migrations, although the scale has diminished in recent years due to Covid-19 concerns.

William Li, founder, chairman and CEO of Nio, said on September 21 that the company hopes to increase the number of battery swap stations covering the highway to 169 by the Chinese New Year holiday.

To date, Nio has 606 battery swap stations in China, 127 of which are along highways.
