Tesla's 1,000th Supercharger station in the Chinese mainland will be opened on October 22 in Shenzhen, the company announced on Wednesday.

That will mark a major milestone for the company in China, and it will be celebrated with a ceremony that will be broadcast live on Weibo.

Tesla announced earlier this month that it added 43 supercharging stations in China in September, providing 281 Superchargers, most of which are V3 piles and a small number of V2 products.

Tesla's 1,000th Supercharger station in the Chinese mainland is less than three months away from the launch of its 900th.

On July 31, Tesla announced that it had surpassed 900 Supercharger stations open in the Chinese mainland, offering more than 6,900 Superchargers.

Tesla's 900th Supercharger station is also located in Shenzhen and offers 16 charging piles.

Notably, Shanghai, where Tesla's China factory is located, appears to be its main market in China, where the company also has the largest number of charging facilities.

At the end of September, Tesla opened its 100th Supercharger station in Shanghai and the 1,000th Supercharger in the city.

Tesla's rapid expansion of its charging network comes at a time when its sales in China are growing at an impressive rate.

Tesla China's wholesale sales in September reached 56,006 units, up 394 percent year-on-year and up 26.5 percent from August, according to data released earlier this month by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).

China-made Tesla vehicles sold 52,153 units at retail in China in September, with 3,853 units exported, the CPCA said.

Model 3 sales in China in September were 19,120 units and Model Y sales were 33,033 units.

In addition to Tesla, its peers in China are also accelerating the construction of energy replenishment facilities.

As of October 20, Nio had 546 battery swap stations and 391 supercharging stations with 2,382 charging piles in China, according to CnEVPost data.

also has 546 destination charging stations offering 3,048 charging piles and access to more than 420,000 third-party charging piles.

Xpeng Motors said on October 14 that it put 40 new supercharging stations into operation in September, bringing the total to 439, covering 121 cities in China.

It also put 27 destination charging stations into operation in September, bringing the total to 108, said.
