Tesla China's wholesale sales in September reached 56,006 units, up 394 percent year-on-year and up 26.5 percent from August, according to data released Tuesday by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).

China-made Tesla vehicles sold 52,153 retail units in China in September and exported 3,853 units, the CPCA said.

Model 3 sales in China in September were 19,120 units and Model Y sales were 33,033 units.

That compares with Tesla China's wholesale sales of 44,264 units in August, including 31,379 units exported.

China's retail sales of new energy passenger vehicles reached 334,000 units in September, the first time the 300,000-unit threshold was exceeded, according to the CPCA.

Wholesale sales of new energy passenger vehicles in China reached 355,000 units in September, the second month in a row to exceed 300,000 units, up 184.4 percent year-on-year and 14.7 percent from August.

remains the top company in China in terms of wholesale sales of new energy passenger vehicles, reaching 70,432 units, according to the CPCA.

SAIC-GM-Wuling's wholesale sales of new energy passenger vehicles were 38,850 units, SAIC Motor Passenger Vehicle 21,552 units, GAC Aion 13,572 units, Great Wall Motor 12,770 units, 10,628 units and Motors 10,412 units, according to the CPCA.

BYD's September retail sales of new energy vehicles reached 69,818 units, Tesla China 52,153 units, and SAIC-GM-Wuling 37,151 units, and together they accounted for 49 percent of the market share, according to the CPCA.
