SAIC, China's largest local carmaker, sold 70,772 new energy vehicles (NEVs) in August, up 171 percent from 26,099 units a year earlier, the company showed in a filing to the Shanghai Stock Exchange on Monday.

This is the first time the company has disclosed NEV sales data in a company filing, having previously only provided the data on its official website or in its official WeChat account.

The company has sold a total of 414,675 NEVs this year, up 106 percent from 104,756 units in the same period last year, the data showed.

SAIC passenger vehicle branch's Roewe, MG and R brand sold more than 17,000 NEVs combined in August, up 390 percent year-on-year, the company said in a separate announcement on its website.

SAIC-GM-Wuling sold more than 44,000 new energy vehicles in August, up 140.5 percent year-on-year. SAIC VW sold nearly 5,000 NEVs in August, up 168.3 percent year-on-year and up 32.6 percent from July.

In terms of all vehicle sales, SAIC sold 453,408 vehicles in August, down 10 percent from 504,236 in the same month last year.

SAIC VW sold 123,017 vehicles in August, down 15 percent from 145,000 in the same month last year.

SAIC GM sold 106,017 vehicles in August, down 18 percent from 129,262 in the same month last year.

SAIC passenger vehicle branch sold 65,000 vehicles in August, up 29 percent from 50,426 in the same month last year.

SAIC-GM-Wuling sold 130,057 vehicles in August, down 12 percent from 148,000 in the same month last year.

The company exported and produced 60,861 vehicles at its overseas bases in August, up 138 percent from 25,548 in the same month last year.

SAIC's first-half revenue was RMB 356.6 billion ($55 billion), up 29.90 percent from a year earlier, the company reported on August 26.

The company's net profit attributable to shareholders of the listed company for the first half of the year was RMB13.31 billion, up 58.61% year-on-year, and its basic earnings per share was RMB 1.15.

The company's total assets were RMB 883.48 billion and net assets attributable to shareholders of the listed company were RMB 275.98 billion.
