Motors announced on Sunday that its new sedan, the P5, will be officially launched on September 15, about two months after the model went on pre-sale.

Xpeng announced the news on Weibo, with a poster showing it will hold a "Super Launch Event".

The company announced the P5 for pre-sale at the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area International Auto Show in Shenzhen on July 17, announcing a price range of 160,000 yuan ($24,700) to 230,000 yuan.

Later that day, the company said the P5 had more than 5,000 orders within seven hours of opening for pre-sale, and that 70 percent of those who pre-ordered chose the LiDAR-equipped versions.

The company did not announce order numbers for the latest P5 after that time.

Xpeng debuted a new nomenclature for the P5, with the P representing the model's highest level of intelligence, followed by the E and G. The numbers in the names of the different models represent their NEDC range.

The P series offers 550km and 600km NEDC range options, while the E series and G series both offer 460km and 550km range options.

Xpeng previously boasted that the P5 was the world's first LiDAR-equipped model, but it's worth noting that only the P series is equipped with this component, while the E series and G series models are not equipped with LiDAR.

Those who previously participated in the pre-order paid an intent deposit of RMB 5,000, which is refundable at any time, and can change the configuration of the model at any time during the pre-order period.

Their RMB 5,000 deposit can be used to offset the RMB 10,000,000 purchase price of the car.
