Nankai University, one of China's top universities located in Tianjin, and Sunwoda, a lithium-ion battery maker, recently established a joint laboratory to accelerate technological breakthroughs in the field.

The lab will focus its efforts on the development of composite electrolytes with high ionic conductivity and low interfacial resistance, with the goal of applying them to next-generation metal-air and lithium-metal batteries, according to a statement.

The lab will develop key materials and technologies for sodium-ion batteries, including layered oxide cathode materials, polyanionic cathode materials, carbon-based cathode materials, and advanced electrolytes, with the hope of ultimately providing a high-performing electrochemical energy storage system.

The cooperation between Nankai University and Sunwoda has been included in the important work of the Tianjin New Energy Battery Talent Innovation and Entrepreneurship Alliance, and this joint laboratory is an important milestone for the cooperation to enter a substantial stage.

As of July, nearly 40 companies have proposed to join the alliance, covering various fields such as new energy battery and material R&D, production, application and recycling.

Nankai district and Nankai University have signed a cooperation agreement to create an innovation and entrepreneurship consortium integrating scientific research, science and technology development, and business incubation.
