Chinese electric vehicle startup Automobile said Sunday it delivered a record 6,011 units in July, surpassing 6,000 for the first time and up 392 percent from a year earlier.

From January to July, the electric car brand owned by Hozon Auto and backed by Qihoo 360, China's largest cybersecurity company, accumulated 27,115 deliveries.

Neta's deliveries in July were 90 percent for individual users and 10 percent for corporate customers, the company said.

Neta had previously gone unnoticed, but in May its deliveries surpassed those of , making it one of the top three new car makers in China.

In June, Neta sold 5,138 cars, less than Li Auto's 7,713 units. Li Auto delivered 8,589 Li ONEs in July.

Neta was founded in October 2014. The first Neta model was launched in November 2018, and to date, it has 2 models on sale - Neta V and Neta U Pro.

The Neta V is priced between RMB 59,900 ($9,390) and RMB 75,900, and the Neta U Pro has an official guide price between RMB 99,800 and 159,800 after subsidies.

Qihoo 360 announced on May 11 that it has officially entered the smart car sector with Neta.

Neta is actively expanding its production capacity, with a planned capacity of 80,000 units at its Tongxiang plant, 100,000 units at its Yichun plant and 100,000 units at its Nanning plant, for a total capacity of 280,000 units.

Neta's short-term goal is to sell more than 10,000 units a month, yicai.com quoted the company's CEO Zhang Yong as saying in June.

The brand will launch a model in the RMB 100,000-200,000 range and get monthly sales to 5,000-10,000 units, Zhang said.

He said he hopes to achieve the target of 400,000-500,000 units per year by 2025.
