Gotion Hefei, a subsidiary of Chinese power battery supplier Gotion High-tech, signed an agreement with Hefei Lujiang High-tech Zone on July 25 to build a 200,000 ton per year cathode material production base there, further expanding its business into the upstream sector.

The project will cover an area of about 268 mu (179,000 square meters) with a total construction area of about 120,000 square meters.

It is scheduled to start construction by the end of October 2021 and go into production in 2025, with an expected annual output value of RMB 10 billion ($1.55 billion) upon completion, Gotion said.

So far, Gotion has built several industrial projects in Lujiang.

In 2015, Gotion established Hefei Gotion Battery Materials Co in Lujiang High-tech Zone, focusing on the development and production of lithium iron phosphate and nickel-cobalt-manganese ternary cathode materials.

In 2017, Gotion New Energy (Lujiang) Co completed a 6GWh per year power battery production line and pack production line.

In 2020, Gotion's annual production capacity of 30,000 tons of high nickel ternary cathode materials project is located in Lujiang High-tech Zone.

Gotion is increasing its business layout in Hefei.

On July 20, Gotion Hefei signed a cooperation agreement with Hefei Xinzhan High-tech Zone to build a 20 GWh power battery production base in the area.

The project is expected to cover an area of 500 mu and will be planned and implemented in phases, with the first phase of 10 GWh to be completed and put into operation in 18 months from the start of construction.

On June 23, Gotion announced the official groundbreaking of its Feidong Gotion Battery Material Base Project.

The Gotion Feidong battery material base project is located in the Hefei Circular Economy Demonstration Park, with a planned area of 2,280 mu and a total investment of RMB 12 billion.

Upon completion, the project will enable Gotion to supply 100GWh of raw materials for power battery capacity by 2025.
