Volkswagen expects its ID series of electric cars to see a sales surge in China in the second half of this year, Reuters reported on Thursday, citing Volkswagen Group CEO Herbert Diess.

By the end of this year, Volkswagen wants to sell 80,000 to 100,000 ID models in China, Diess said, adding that sales doubled to 6,000 units in July in the Chinese market from 3,000 units in June.

Volkswagen now offers ID.4 and ID.6 models in China.

Sales of battery electric vehicles (BEV) in China rose 110 percent to 18,285 units in the first half of the year, yet it accounts for only 11 percent of Volkswagen's global electric car deliveries.

After the delivery of Volkswagen's first all-electric model, ID.4 CROZZ, Volkswagen began delivering ID.6 CROZZ, a mid-size all-electric SUV based on MEB modular platform, in China on July 18.

The car is available in five models, priced at RMB 239,800 ($36,954) - RMB 334,800 after subsidies, with some price overlap with 's China-made Model Y and 's Li ONE.

The car offers a choice of 6 and 7-seat models with an NEDC range of 439-565km.
