To accelerate the construction of electric vehicle charging infrastructure, various regions in China are making efforts.

Guizhou province in southwestern China recently announced a three-year action plan for electric vehicle charging infrastructure construction, planning to build 4,500, 5,000 and 5,500 electric vehicle charging piles in 2021, 2022 and 2023, respectively.

By 2023, the province will have 38,000 electric vehicle charging piles and a charging capacity of 1.6 million kilowatts, by which time every township will have a charging pile, according to the plan.

Guizhou will use highway service area parking spaces to build fast-charging stations, with priority given to building charging facilities in 20 service areas in 2021, according to the plan.

The province will promote the construction of charging facilities in 13 other highway service areas in 2022 and 10 service areas in 2023.

In large shopping malls, supermarkets and transportation hubs, the proportion of parking spaces for the construction of charging facilities will be no less than 20 percent, according to the program.

The province also plans to actively promote the construction of charging infrastructure in existing residential areas, and 100 percent of parking spaces in new residential areas should be built with charging facilities or reserved for construction and installation.

As of May 2021, China has a total of 884,000 units of public charging piles.

China now has about 1.95 million charging piles, up 47% from a year ago
