Chinese driverless company AutoX unveiled its fifth-generation driverless system, AutoX Gen5, on Tuesday, with its core computing platform, AutoX XCU, reaching a new high in China's in-vehicle computing power.
It is China's first L4/L5 driverless computing platform, reaching 2,200 TOPS of computing power, according to data released by the company.
AutoX Gen5 is paired with automotive-grade hardware and electrical and electronic architecture with a total of 50 high-definition automotive sensors.
There are 28 cameras capturing a total of 220 million pixels per second, six high-resolution LiDAR offering 15 million points per second, and 4D RADAR with 0.9-degree resolution encompassing 360 degrees around the vehicle.
The system was under development for over two and a half years, tailored to the level of safety required for RoboTaxi in China, and is now in mass production.
Founded in September 2016 and headquartered in Shenzhen, AutoX is a frontrunner in driverless RoboTaxi development in China.
The company has a global footprint of eight cities, with R&D centers in Beijing, Shanghai, Silicon Valley and San Diego, and is building China's first "truly unmanned" driver operating zone in Shenzhen with no safety officer and no remote control.
Starting in 2020, AutoX began driverless testing with completely empty vehicles on the open road. So far, AutoX has been operating fully unmanned RoboTaxis for 6 months with zero accident records.
With the release of the fifth-generation autonomous driving system, AutoX is expected to further expand the deployment of fully driverless fleets in the future.
