China's new energy vehicle ownership exceeds 6 million-CnEVPost

China's new energy vehicle ownership continues to rise, though it still accounts for a small share of all vehicles, meaning there is plenty of room for improvement.

By the end of June, China's new energy vehicle fleet reached 6.03 million, accounting for 2.06 percent of all vehicles, according to data released Tuesday by the Ministry of Public Security of the People's Republic of China.

Among them, the number of pure electric vehicles was 4.93 million, accounting for 81.68 percent of the total number of new energy vehicles.

The number of newly registered new energy vehicles in the first half of the year was a record high of 1.103 million, an increase of 774,000 units or 234.92 percent compared with the same period last year. Compared with the first half of 2019 the figure increased by 473,000 units, or 74.94 percent.

In the first half of the year, new energy vehicle registrations in China accounted for 7.80 percent of new vehicle registrations.

As of June, China had 469 million motor vehicle drivers, including 431 million car drivers, accounting for 92.00 percent of the total number of drivers, the data showed.

In the first half of 2021, the number of drivers who newly obtained a driver's license in China was 13.9 million, an increase of 6.62 million or 90.93 percent compared to the same period last year.

Among them, a total of 16.57 million drivers were over 60 years old, an increase of 2.33 million or 16.36 percent compared to the same period last year.

In the first half of 2021, China registered 18.71 million new motor vehicles, an increase of 4.57 million vehicles or 32.33 percent compared with the same period last year.

By the end of June, a total of 14.14 million new cars were registered, an increase of 3.725 million units or 35.76 percent compared with the same period last year.

By the end of June, the number of passenger vehicles reached 252 million, including 233 million private cars.

In the first half of 2021, China registered 11.59 million new passenger vehicles, an increase of 3.155 million vehicles or 37.40 percent compared with the same period last year.

As of the end of June, the number of cargo vehicles reached 31.91 million, accounting for 10.91 percent of the total number of vehicles. In the first half of the year 2021, the number of newly registered cargo vehicles reached 2.42 million, an increase of 546,000 vehicles or 29.12% compared to the same period last year.

Nationwide, a total of 74 cities have more than 1 million vehicles, an increase of 5 cities year-on-year, 33 cities have more than 2 million vehicles, and 18 cities have more than 3 million vehicles.

Among them, Beijing has more than 6 million cars, Chengdu and Chongqing have more than 5 million cars. The car ownership of Suzhou, Shanghai, and Zhengzhou are more than 4 million.
