Nio announced the Power North plan on the first day of the Shanghai auto show on April 19, with the aim of enhancing the electric vehicle experience for customers in northern China. Now, the company said, users can begin to take advantage of the benefits today.

said that from July 1, 2021, to December 31, 2024, all Nio vehicles will be eligible for 1,000 kWh of free charging credit each year in eight regions in northern China using Nio-branded public charging piles.

If usage exceeds 1,000kWh, the service fee is waived for the excess, the company said.

Power North is Nio's infrastructure plan and charging incentives for the eight northern provinces of China, including Heilongjiang.

Over the next three years, Nio plans to have 100 battery swap stations, 120 mobile charging vehicles, 500 supercharging stations, more than 2,000 supercharging piles and more than 10,000 destination charging piles in these regions, the company said.

When completed, there will be a battery swap station or supercharging station for every 100 kilometers on average on the highways in these areas, quality charging facilities for every 3 square kilometers on average in urban areas, and 95% coverage of charging resources in scenic spots above 4A level, William Li, founder, chairman and CEO of Nio, said in a press conference at the Shanghai auto show.

Nio said at the time that it hopes to enhance the replenishment experience for electric vehicle users in these areas by vigorously deploying charging infrastructure, including battery swap stations, supercharging stations, destination charging stations and mobile charging vehicles, and by using third-party facilities.

Nio said on Thursday that it has been stepping up its efforts to build replenishment infrastructure in these areas since the launch of the Power North plan.

As of July 1, Nio has completed a total of 11 battery swap stations, 15 supercharging stations and 17 destination charging stations in the eight regions, it said.
