Chinese EV maker Nio announced its Power North plan last month to improve the EV experience for customers in northern China, and now the plan is starting to be implemented.

On May 9, 's first facility with both a second-generation battery swap station and a charging station went live in northwest China's Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, making it Nio's 211th battery swap station and 156th supercharging station in China.

On April 19, the first day of the Shanghai auto show, Nio unveiled its Power North plan to enhance the electric vehicle replenishment experience for customers in eight northern regions of China.

The company said it plans to have 100 battery swap stations, 120 mobile charging vehicles, 500 supercharging stations, more than 2,000 supercharging piles and more than 10,000 destination charging piles in the eight regions within the next three years.

By then, there will be a battery swap station or super-charging station for every 100 kilometers on average on the highways in these areas, quality charging facilities for every 3 square kilometers on average in urban areas, and 95% coverage of charging resources in scenic spots above 4A level, William Li, founder, chairman and CEO of Nio, said at the Shanghai auto show.

With the operation of this charging facility of Nio in Xinjiang, the Power North plan has officially entered the execution stage.

It is worth noting that the battery swap station is located in the parking lot of the local furniture retail giant and real estate conglomerate Red Star Macalline Group, which signed a cooperation agreement with Nio in early February.

Under the agreement, Nio will receive support from Red Star for the construction and operation of 60 charging stations and battery swap stations in 2021.

To date, Nio has 212 battery swap stations, 156 supercharging stations and 339 destination charging stations in China, with more than 380,000 third-party charging piles connected with its app.
