China's hottest-selling electric car model, the Hongguang Mini EV, will have a convertible version, based on the current model, which will be unveiled at the Shanghai Auto Show later this month, SAIC-GM-Wuling said on April 14.

The model, called the Hongguang Mini EV Cabrio, features a soft-top convertible that stows essentially level with the body and is equipped with a separate anti-roll bar.

The posters released by SAIC-GM-Wuling show that the car has added trim strips around the body in a different color from the body and silver emblems on the front for a sleeker look.

The car's interior has been redesigned with two 10-inch screens and a flat-bottomed steering wheel.

The company has not yet announced power information for the car, but it is expected to follow the specifications of the Hongguang Mini EV, with a maximum motor power of 20kW and peak torque of 85N⋅m, and offering NEDC ranges of 120km and 170km.

The Hongguang Mini EV Macaron just launched is priced at RMB 37,600 ($5,750) - 43,600, and the Hongguang Mini EV Cabrio is expected to exceed that price.

The Hongguang Mini EV has sold more than 200,000 units after 200 days on the market, and orders for the upgraded Hongguang Mini EV Macaron, launched earlier this month, topped 36,000 units within 14 days of pre-sale.

Hongguang Mini EV sales reached 39,745 units in March, up 130 percent from February. This is the model's highest monthly sales since its launch last July, breaking the previous record of 36,762 units in January this year.
