Changchun, a city in northern China, will no longer use fuel cars for new cabs and official vehicles starting this year in an effort to be the pioneer city in promoting new energy vehicles in China's alpine and seasonal tundra regions.

Changchun City, FAW Group and State Grid Jilin Company recently launched a project that plans to put 34,000 new energy cabs, ride-hailing cars and official cars in 3 years, achieve battery swap station that circulates 41,000 batteries, and build 120 new operation exchange stations.

By the end of this year, Changchun City plans to complete 44 battery swap stations.

The realization of this project will promote Changchun to become the first pilot city of new energy in seasonal tundra in China and create a demonstration site for electrification of public transportation vehicles.

Several Chinese cities, including Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Kunming, Taiyuan, Dalian and Shenyang, have already introduced policies requiring new online rental cars to use no traditional fuel vehicles but new energy vehicles.

Electric vehicle batteries can reduce range due to low temperatures, so the penetration rate of new energy vehicles is much lower than in developed regions in the south. Changchun City is actively guiding the development of the new energy industry by modifying procurement rules and building exchange stations.

China aims to have 20% penetration rate of new energy vehicles by 2025 in new plan
