BYD Europe's official website announced product details of its blade battery-powered SUV, the 2021 BYD Tang, on March 1, and announced the vehicle's entry into the Norwegian market.
The vehicle uses an 86.4 kWh blade battery and has an NEDC range of 505 km. It accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 4.6 seconds and is priced at NOK 599,900 ($70,185).
In comparison, the car starts at a much lower price of RMB 279,500 ($43,192) in China.
The car is targeted at the family market and features a large seven-seat space inside and a high-end interior with a panoramic sunroof and OTA upgrades.
The car features leather checkered seats in the interior, a swiveling in-car display for front passengers, and heating and cooling ventilation.
The new BYD Tang was announced for sale in Europe in spring 2020, with delivery scheduled for January 2021.
Production will begin in the second quarter of this year, with sales handled by local distribution group RSA, and shipment is expected in the late summer of this year.
Despite the delayed release of several new models due to the Covid-19, Norway's share of electric vehicle sales in 2020 reached a record-breaking 54.3 percent.
This is up from 42.4 percent in 2019 and up from 1 percent a decade ago, making Norway the first country in the world where electric car sales account for more than 50 percent of vehicles.
In addition to BYD, Xpeng Motors has shipped 100 Xpeng G3i SUVs to Norway by the sea on September 25, 2020.
Nio has also said it will enter the European market in the second half of the year, and its first stop will likely be Norway as well.
