Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker Leapmotor announced on February 2 the launch of the S01 CoolPlay Edition, a two-door, four-seat coupe priced from RMB 130,900 ($20,270) after subsidies, with a limited edition of 200 units.

As the first production model of Leapmotor, the S01 features sports car elements such as frameless doors, a yacht-like suspension roof and a unibody rear design.

The car is based on the current S01 460 Standard and 460 Pro, and basically follows the existing styling with only detailing adjustments. Leapmotor says it plans to launch a limited-edition model with a different theme every season.

The S01 is equipped with the Leap In Bio-Key, which allows users to enter the vehicle via finger vein recognition and start the vehicle via face recognition.

Leapmotor also announced the Series B round of funding of RMB 4.3 billion, with an overcapitalization of RMB 1 billion.

After the completion of the B round, Leapmotor will launch a Pre-IPO round and plans to apply for an IPO in China this year, having hired CITIC Capital as the sponsor, according to this previous plan.
