Various cities in China are taking steps to encourage the use of new energy vehicles, with the northwestern city of Xi'an being the latest.

In an effort to speed up the construction of local new energy vehicle charging and battery swap infrastructure, several government departments in Xi'an recently issued a joint document stating that a one-time subsidy of RMB 10,000 ($1,544) will be given to individuals for the installation of charging facilities.

The policy requires that the vehicle be purchased in Xi'an between September 25, 2020, and December 31, 2022, and that the charging pile be installed in the vehicle owner's own parking space.

In addition to subsidies for individuals, local charging station operating companies are also subsidized.

Operators of charging and battery swap facilities that were put into operation before September 25, 2020 will receive a one-time financial subsidy of 30% of the actual investment.

For charging and battery swap facilities that are completed and put into operation after September 25, 2020, Xi'an will receive a subsidy based on the electricity consumption recorded in the charging transaction information at a rate of 0.15 yuan per kWh. Local development zones can give an additional subsidy of 0.15 yuan per kWh on top of the municipal subsidy.
