China's first L4 level 5G self-driving car - the Dongfeng Sharing-VAN rolled off the production line today.

Dongfeng Sharing-VAN is the "1.0 plus" version, equipped with 4 LIDARs. 1 millimeter wave radar, 16 ultrasonic radars and 12 cameras.

It has functions such as dynamic speed limit, roundabout passage, dynamic obstacle avoidance, multi-vehicle formation, automatic parking, remote control and dispatch monitoring.

Li Kai, deputy director of the Dongfeng Technology Center's Smart Internet Department, said Dongfeng Sharing-VAN, which uses 5G communication technology, can also enable remote driving with the addition of the Telematics and Beidou systems.

"In case of an emergency, the back office can take over the vehicle by remote control with a delay of only 5-6 milliseconds," Li said.

The first batch of six Dongfeng Sharing-VAN 1.0 plus will be delivered to Qingdao's National Marine Lab, which will operate at the National Marine Laboratory Smart Park for manned ferrying and delivery of goods.

Over the next one to two months, Dongfeng will be delivering more than 70 Sharing-VAN autopilots to customers, including Beijing, Zhejiang, Guangdong and Hunan.

Dongfeng Sharing-VAN was developed and conceptualized in September 2018, and the first prototype was developed and premiered in six months, with mass production in 22 months.
